Vibrational resonance and vibrational propagation in excitable systems

چکیده
We report the occurrence of vibrational resonance in excitable systems. Namely, we show that an optimal amplitude of the high-frequency driving enhances the response of an excitable system to a low-frequency signal. The phenomenon is confirmed in an excitable electronic circuit and in the FitzHugh–Nagumo model. In this last case we also analyze the influence of additive noise and the interplay between stochastic and vibrational resonance. Additionally, we show that this effect can be extended to spatially extended excitable media, taking the form of an enhanced propagation of the low-frequency signal. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. FOX-7 (1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene) recently is expected as a relatively new energetic material with high-performance and low sensitivity. The RHF and MP2 levels and DFT method with B3LYP functional with aug-cc-pVDZ basis set have been used for obtaining equilibrium geometry and Rho function (electron density distribution). By the aid of fundamental physical theorems implemented in the ...
متن کاملVibrational resonance in groundwater-dependent plant ecosystems
We report the phenomenon of vibrational resonance in a single species and a two species models of groundwater-dependent plant ecosystems with a biharmonic oscillation (with two widely different frequencies ω and Ω, Ω ≫ ω) of the water table depth. In these two systems, the response amplitude of the species biomass shows multiple resonances with different mechanisms. The resonance occurs at both...
متن کاملExperimental and finite element vibrational analysis of exhaust manifold heat shield
Most of internal combustion engines have one or two heat shields that have been installed on the exhaust manifold to avoid the heat transfer to upper parts of the engine such as the valve cover. In some engines, this part fails due to the fracture and causes engine noise and other failures in the engine. In this paper, the failure of a heat shield due to vibrational loads of the engine has been...
متن کاملTime Dependent Coupled Cluster Approach to Resonance Raman Excitation Profiles from General Anharmonic Surfaces
A time dependent coupled cluster approach to the calculation of Resonance Raman excitation profiles on general anharmonic surfaces is presented. The vibrational wave functions on the ground electronic surface are obtained by the coupled cluster method (CCM). It is shown that the propagation of the vibrational ground state on the upper surface is equivalent to propagation of the vacuum state by ...
متن کاملSurface Energy and Elastic Medium Effects on Torsional Vibrational Behavior of Embedded Nanorods
In this paper surface energy and elastic medium effects on torsional vibrational behavior of nanorods are studied. The surface elasticity theory is used to consider the surface energy effects and the elastic medium is modeled as torsional springs attached to the nanorod. At the next step, Hamilton’s principle is utilized to derive governing equations and boundary conditions. Then, with the aid ...
